Brain Child essays are the cornerstone of our magazine. We publish essays between 1,500 - 4,500 words, that explore the joys and challenges of parenting. We appreciate unique subjects or new angles on familiar topics. We love to read and publish seasoned authors as well as new authors all of whom become part of Brain Child's literary community joining the ranks of novelists Jane Smiley and Anne Tyler, best-selling authors Cheryl Strayed, Ann Hood and Barbara Ehrenreich, and acclaimed writers Antonya Nelson, Alice Hoffman, Patricia Hermes, Virginia Holman and Susan Maushart.

Please send us long form essays only, we are no longer reading/publishing shorter blog posts -- If your essay would work on a blog about mothering, it may not work for us.
